Keyword Research

When you’ve set up your first campaign start researching keywords for your site. Here is where SEO Effect’s worth begins to show up.

First, there are two modes: basic and expert. The basic mode of SEO Effect helps the novice user through the process. A true SEO geek will want to use the expert mode with all the extra bells and whistles.

Then you have to pick a purpose for your keyword research:

1. Get more visitors

2. Get visitors to stay longer, use the site better

3. Get visitors to convert to a goal

4. Get visitors to buy more online

This goals enables SEO Effect to track the success of your researched keywords against your chosen goal no matter if it is conversions, sold items or visitor engagement as measured by Google Analytics.

The SEO Effect keyword tool helps the user trough the steps to get a worthwhile final keyword list that helps you focus on that keywords that have the highest potential. For every keyword it tells you the maximum extra visitors your site can get or other metrics according to your website goals.

In the next stage SEO Effect delivers three different approaches to researching keywords:

1. a list of keywords you provide yourself

2. keywords extracted from a website (not necessarily yours)

3. keywords extracted from your Google Analytics data.

This seed keyword input will give you a first output keyword list. You can expand this list by exploring more keyword suggestions for each given keyword in de list.

In the next screen add keyword relevance’s to each keyword. This will help you to divide off topic keywords from on topic keywords. By default al keywords with traffic have a relevancy set of 100%

Ones set and done you find our SEO KPI ‘traffic share’ trends down to the keyword level under the trends tab. This SEO KPI replaces SERP monitoring.

SEO KPI Keyword Traffic Share eliminates SERP monitoring

Keyword Traffic Share eliminates all of the fuzzy “personal search” engine rankings that differ from the normal, regular search engine rankings. About 20% of Google searches where personal till December 2009. Google made all 100% of searches personal as they announced in a blogpost in decemebr 2009″Personalised Search for everyone“. In “personal searches,” Google shuffles the rankings of a search result according to the searcher’s previous queries.

This SEO Key Performance Indicator represents the approximate percentage of visits to your website over the last month in comparison to the total Maximum search volume a number one search engine listing can bring in for a particular keyword. This metric is targeted to your specified country as well as the language settings for all search engines in your country.

Example”traffic share:”

  • The exact keyword “car” generated 800 searches last month.
  • SEO Effect calculatess that a number one search engine listing for car gets 160 clicks.
  • Your website received 80 visits last month on the word car from organic search.
  • Your “traffic share” is 50% (80/160)

SEO KPI: Weighted average traffic share.

Next to traffic share down at the keyword level, SEO Effect also calculates the weighted average traffic share.  This high level SEO KPI is a percentage from zero to 100%. When you have a weighted average traffic share of 100%, all of your optimized keywords have a number one position in all of the search engines in your country.  More importantly, they push maximum traffic to your website. The term, “weighted average” means that keywords with a higher search volume have more weight in this KPI. This KPI is segmented by brand and non brand keywords.
