How to Upgrade Magento Store to Enterprise Edition?
Since we all know that Magento Professional Edition will be discontinued later this year. Merchants using Magento PE will definitely not like to downgrade to Community Edition as theyโll not get advanced features in it. The only solution to PE merchants is either to continue with Professional Edition with no future upgrades or upgrade to Enterprise Edition.
According to our Magento Experts, one should upgrade to Enterprise edition. Reason being, even if you downgrade to community edition, you need to buy extensions for your pro features. And in case, if you stick with current PE, you will not able to get upgrade versions of it in future.
For all those merchants who want to upgrade their Magento Store to Enterprise Edition, we have come up with a simple & easy upgrade process.
Steps to be followed:
a) Backup Database
Whenever you try something you, always take a backup of your website. We suggest you to copy data (Via phpMyadmin) in new DB which will be used in your Enterprise Environment.
b) Fresh Copy of Enterprise Edition
After taking the backups, you need to have fresh copy of latest Enterprise Edition.
c) Theming and Modules
The next step is to copy your theme from old Magento store in Enterprise Edition. Also upload modules which are necessary for your store.
d) Pointing Database
In order to point the correct database to your Enterprise Edition Store, you need to edit one file i.e. /app/etc/local.xml.
Note: The above code is a sample connection string. You must change the host, username, password and dbname.
e) Navigate to Enterprise Store
After making above changes, navigate to your Magento EE store. Your website should be accessible from both; frontend and backend. You can access your backend using the same credentials of old website.
f) Configuration Settings
You may have to change your configuration settings so as to point correct theme. For this go to Configuration> Design
Potential Issues!!
After all above, your website should run perfectly. However, you might find some of the functionality of your store doesnโt perform correctly. This is due to the extensions and modules you will be using in Magento EE. Just make sure any rewrite that your website has is correct according to Enterprise Edition.
